The Swedish Torch That’s Bigger, Longer-Burning, Better by Design.

Swedish Torches

Inspired by old-world tradition. Rooted in Nordic firecraft, the Swedish Torch transforms a single log into a self-contained, self-managing fire—burning from within to provide warmth, light, and enduring flame.

Runic offers two torches with total burn times from 2+ hours: The Runic™ (2-3hrs+) and The Runic XL™ (4hrs+).

The size, traditional look and function kit, Runic Swedish torches are hard to beat.

The Kit

Our torch kits have a traditional style. They come with a Swedish torch (obviously), 9 pieces of 16” kindling and curated, easy-to-use fire-starters wrapped with burlap and manila cord/twine. The kit also allows you to learn basic fire-starting methods and materials as a survival skill.

You can also buy the torch by itself, if you’re feeling self-reliant with your fire-starting skills.

The Runic™
$40 (16”tall x 12”w)

The Runic XL™

History of the Swedish torch

They’re called many things: Swedish torch, Swedish fire log, Norwegian stove, Finnish Candle, Canadian Candle. Through oral tradition tracing back to the 1600’s, it’s been said Swedish soldiers needed a way to use their firewood efficiently, while still maintaining a dependable source of light, warmth, and heat for cooking. During the Thirty Years’ War, firewood was limited and hard to haul. So, soldiers searched for ways to conserve their supply of wood. (Although, a Finnish friend tells me jokingly, that the Finns would argue who came up with it first.) With this multipurpose, self-sustaining, efficient fire-burning method, a single log could be used to cook their meals, as well as provide heat and light at the same time for hours.

The Runic Swedish torch is even more practical. Ours are big, bright, long-burning, kiln-dried (so they light fast and smoke less) and come with a fire-starting kit and kindling.

For many, it’s just as relevant today as it was in the 17th century. Cooking, camping, protection, or just an enjoyable way to experience the outdoors with family and friends.

The Runic torch is big, but practical

RUNIC sets the standard for big, bright, long-burning, easy-to-light, functional Swedish Torches.
